WHO WE ARE

DFA is a specialized advisory firm serving public and private sector clients in developing economies, and specialized in financial management practices, techniques, and instruments.

DFA was founded by professionals of the development finance institutions, driven by a desire to support sound, innovative, and sustainable financial practices in developing economies.

Our team of advisors brings decades of experience acquired as practitioners from development institutions, investment banks, and government entities, with field-work experience in over 70 countries.

WHY DEVELOPMENT FINANCE?

The origins of Development Finance can be traced to the end of World War II with the creation of the World Bank to finance the reconstruction of war-torn Europe. What started as straightforward infrastructure loans to governments has evolved into a multifaceted, and continuously evolving, landscape of instruments, practices, and stakeholders, aiming to promote the sustainable development of rising economies.

Beyond the traditional loan, development finance instruments now also include grants, guarantees, bonds, equity, derivatives, swaps, insurance, etc., to allocate capital and manage risk. Likewise, advancements in financial practices include new standards in asset and liability management, and in social and environmental strategies, requiring a continuous upkeep of technical capacity. Finally, stakeholders now include hundreds of development banks, agencies, foundations, NGOs, etc., with multilateral, bilateral and domestic presence, working alongside private sector investors.
This diverse environment demands expert guidance.
